WATER PUMP REBUILD NOT SO BAD

I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD WRITE A LETTER FOR ANYONE
THINKING ABOUT REBUILDING THEIR WATER PUMP, SINCE
I JUST FINISHED THE JOB AND NOW KNOW THE MISTAKES
THAT CAN BE MADE. FIRST THE IMPELLER MUST BE REMOVED
THIS CAN BE DONE EITHER WITH THE PROPER PULLER OR
WITH AN IMPROVISED PULLER, MINE CAME APART EASLY
WITH THEBEARING RETAINING CLIP AND GREASE NIPPLE
REMOVED AND STRIKING THE SHAFT INSIDE THE IMPELLER
WITH THE PUMP HOUSING BEING SUPPORTED(MY BUDDY HELD
MINE). THE IMPELLER WILL STAY AND THE SHAFT WILL DROP
OUT OF THE HOUSING ,MAKE SURE NOT TO DROP IT ON THE
FLOOR AND USE A BRASS DRIFT AND HAMMER TO STRIKE THE
SHAFT.CLEAN THE PARTS AND INSTALL THE NEW SEAL IN THE
IMPELLER WITH THESEAL RETAINING WASHER AND CLIP.
USE A PRESS TO PUSH THE NEW IMPELLER BACK ON TO THE
SHAFT. DO NOT TRY TO HAMMER THE IMPELLER AND SEAL
ASSY ONTO THE SHAFT AS YOU WILL LIKELY BREAK THE SEAL
RETAINING WASHER AS IT IS VERY BRITTLE. PRESS IMPELLER
ON TO THE SHAFT UNTIL 3/32 OF AN INCH IS BETWEEN THE
RETAINING WASHER AND THE RETAINING CLIP.THIS WILL
INSURE THE PROPER PRESSURE BETWEEN THE SEAL RETAINING
WASHER AND THE PUMP HOUSING. NOW THE MANUAL STATES TO
GRIND A 5 DEGREE SEAT ON TO THE PUMP HOUSING TO INSURE
A PROPER SEAL BETWEEN THE PUMP HOUSING AND THE RETAINING
WASHER,BUT MOST OF US DONT HAVE ACCESS TO THE TOOLS
TO DO SUCH A JOB I CLEANED THE MATING SURFACE WITH
SOME FINE EMERY CLOTH AND PUT A DAB OF GREASE ON IT
AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AS OF YET.
I HOPE THIS MAY BE OF SOME HELP TO SOMEONE BUT IT IS
NOT INTENDED TO BE A REPLACEMENT TO THE MANUAL .
