Oh yeah...you must put in-line fuses in whenever hooking anything up, but especially when hooked straight up to the battery. Put the fuse as close to the battery as possible. Mine are usually in the battery box if there is room. The fuse protects the WIRE, not the accessory,and keeps a short from BURNING DOWN YOUR RIG, so sixe them accordingly. I have been looking for my wire sizing requirements and can't find them...I think 12 ga. is good up to about 20A for 12v...

You could also run a wire from one battery up under the dash or hood to a terminal blocka nd make a 12v buss to run several thins on. You could even get fancy and get a 24v. relay hooked into the ignition switch and then you get a switched 12v. system in a 24v. truck...the best of both worlds? Make sure the relay can take the current load also. the're cheap surplus, expensive new.
