The battery is in he original location, and a heavy cable makes the run to the starter. I’m leaning toward the starter itself being the culprit, but I will double-check all my connections.

My biggest concern is the high Amp reading when it’s running. I’m worried just driving it to the shop may do real damage. I only have wiring diagrams for latter electronic ignition based systems. The diagram that came with the voltage regulator has been the most helpful. I spent last night going back over everything. I’m stumped. I guess I’ll bite the bullet and convert it over to electronic ignition. I understand they’re pretty bullet proof now. I could stop by an alternator shop and see if they have a basic wiring diagram for a pre-computer based system.
