THERE'S A TRICK TO THIS RIGHT

In the one or two times I've opened the hood on this
baby ('47 PW) I haven't been able to do it without
putting a scratch in the fender. I can laugh about it
now but down the line it won't be funny at all. Is this
something you always have to watch for, and be extra
careful to avoid, or is there an underlying cause that
commonly leads to this problem?
