Blown differential seals

Had a little trouble with my 74 w200 PW, thought it was
leaking brake fluid out the backing plate on the rear but
found out it was differential oil instead. The vent seemed
kind of plugged over with dirt and oil and such but not real
bad. Also the last mechanic who worked on it overfilled the
case. Would these be enough to overload the seals or is
this a common problem? Would kind of like to have functioning
brakes this winter!
Also, the shop manual lists the truck as having either a
spicer 60 or 70 rearend. What is the difference between
the two, and also whats the difference between a Dana 60
or 70 and a Spicer 60 or 70. Maybe I'm just getting confused
