I'm not sure to what extent national media is covering the Hayman Fire burning in Pike Natl. Forest in the CO foothills west of Denver. But it has been a life-changing event for many in our local mountain communities. We have been just outside of the evauation zones being packed and ready to pull out since Sunday night. I pulled this photo (taken from Pine CO on Sun. afternoon) from the net, but our distance, view, and perspective was nearly identical only from the complete opposite direction. Watching that fire explode from 400 to 30,000 acres on Sun. & Mon. was unbelievable. Since then, its tripled again in size to nearly 100,000 acres and we've had smoke-filled, anxious days. Today I "evac'ed" my Ford P/U (I know, please don't give me crap for saving the F*** & leaving the PW dead in the garage (it's insured)), trailer, & kubota to a safe place just in case. We're in better shape than a lot of others. Each day things are looking better, but with the wind as the controlling factor, you can't be too sure.
