I hope no one thought I was totally against swaps or conversions. I just think that many new comers tend to think the engines and parts are hard to come by and completely inadequite for todays use. With this thinking the first thing they generally decide to do is repower without first researching all their flathead options.
I believe there is a time for certain upgrades and conversions.
You will see very few pre-70s cars in Alabama anymore as some 10-15 years ago when the gov. subs. the scrap metal indust. and the price of scrape shot up the scrapeyards crushed and scraped most of the pre-70s vehicles. The same could happen to all the older, powertrains that no one is rebuilding so in a short span of time we could see thousands of engines scraped. I believe that those who live in areas where there are still many old cars and engines left, don't realize that in many parts of the country most stuff has been scraped out already and could happen in their part at any time. Angle, tubing, and plate are hard to come by, now we are having to buy new material as everything has been scraped. Local laws require a current tag on each vehicle as well as insurance,so trying to save old cars could cost a mint. their bound and determined to get rid of all the older stuff so we can't be self-sufficient. I do believe a mans property is his own and he should be able to do with it as he pleases, but that freedom does not insure he will use good judgement.
