Use a MIG or TIG welder MIG is easier. Use a copper plate behind the hole that you are welding ti keep the metal in the hole and to help dissapate the heat. I have done some welding of some very thin metal that is impossible without a coper backing plate. Often I will simply take a piece of copper plate and smash it flat with a hammer and clamp it to the piece that I am welding. Works wonders. If it is a large hole, buy some sheet metal of the correct gage and cut a piece to fit the hole them weld it in. I did this a lot filling in holes in my dash and holes greater than 3/8 to a 1/2' in diameter.
