I am continually amazed at the depth and breadth of knowledge displayed on this page! Years ago I briefly worked in a foundry in PA. We were installing a conveyor system to carry casting sand molds throughout the foundry. We were way overhead and could watch the operation of making those sand molds...it was fascinating ! About your block... When time permits, you may want to remove those freeze plugs Gordon spoke of and physically remove all the sludge that is sure to be in those passages. I went through an engine last fall and flushed and rinsed the block fully until the water ran clear. I had to replace a leaking freeze plug and when I popped it out that passage was packed! I took out all the plugs and almost filled a coffee can with that crud. If you don’t get it all out, it can cause hot spots on the cylinder wall(s). Sorry for the long post.
