cowl lights setup

Finally got my cowl lights rebuilt. Problem-- cab has no installation holes. Can anyone give me some referance dimmensions to locate them. Wiring--what are the wires connected to?--when are these lights on? Was also thinking of running a grounnd wire from each light rather than trust the sheet metal route.
