If this isn't right, someone please correct me. John Eichof gave me a bunch of good Braden Winch info a while back and as I remember it....
.... The MU-3 has basicly the same winching capacity as an MU-2, that being 12,000 lbs. The difference between the two is that while the MU-2 (the one that came on the flat fenders) has the casing designed so that the input shaft enters the gear box on an angle to accomodate the angle of the drive shaft coming from the forward-facing PTO; the MU-3 has the casing designed so that the input shaft enters the gear box straight-on. This creates an overall lower profile. As far as I am aware, the MU-3 did not come as standard issue mounted to the front bumper of any vehicle. MU-3's are often seen mounted in the bed of the truck and run from a rear-facing PTO.
I still want to mount a winch between the frame rails at the rear of my '53 B4-PW utilizing its rear-facing PTO assembly. I presently have a Braden LU-4 (the 10,000 lb winch that came on M-37's), but I would like to aquire an MU-3 for this application. As an added note, the LU-2 is what came on many of the Power Giants and was rated at 8000 lbs. Again, this is all my understanding and if correctoins are needed please post for my benefit as well as everyone elses.
Bruce
