Try to stay with S.A.E 140W The 85-140 seems to be a little on the light side. I have tried some in my spur gear tranny and will be going back to straight 140.
Is there oil around the vent and is the vent it self wet. There is an oil seal for the speedo pinion that will let a lot of oil pass when it's worn out. Check around your speedo cable for leakage.
