I know you said you didn't want to take it off ....but the best way i found is to do so. Then get some Gumout in a 1 gallon can. Add some and drop in a small handfull of CLEAN pea gravel. Shake it for a while and repeat several times until clean. My Dad did this old equipment that people had let sit too long. Does the job. Good luck and I'm sure others will have some more ideas. Kevin
