It's time to make a decision on my 58 W200. Now I understand that this board is really dedicated to the flat fender Power Wagons, but given the vast amount of expertise here, I thought that I would pose my question (have I buttered you up enough yet?)

I have had the engine running (241 V8, not original to the truck), and it will need either rebuilt or replaced. Lifters are very noisy, oil pressure is low, etc. The 241 does not have the "optional" oil filter which also concerns me. Transmission, transfer case and drive train seem pretty solid. Body is in good condition. Wiring is a mess.

I would really like to repower it. I'm not particular about V8 or 6, just as long as it runs great. Any thoughts as to what might fit with a minimal amount of adaptation (like, drop it in and go?).

Or...

Should I consider finding another W200 and keeping this one around for a parts donor?

Or...

Sell this one cheap to Eric and find a real flat fender power wagon? (grin).

Either way I expect to invest several thousand dollars-I just need a little help making the choice that makes the most sense.

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated!
MikeC
