Carb problems

I have a 74 w-200 w/318. It has the stock manifold and carb. I have a problem
with the shaft through the base plate leaking. Is this a chronic problem with this carb, 2nd one in a year to have this problem. Is there an aftermarket carb that will fit the stock manifold?
