I decided that this weekends rainy weather was perfect for me to tear into my 1965 WM300. Had a low compression reading in #6 cyl, and did the oil test which made it jump up to 80PSI. So I figured it was rings.

I removed the head, and found a hole it the combustion chamber about the size of a bb. I took it to the machine shop to have it welded up and have the head magnafluxed. THe machine shop owner told me the the hole was machined, possibly to allow for a "engine running" compression test. The hole seems directly below the small allen head plug on the top ot the head.

Anyone ever seens this done? Any forseen problems with welding up the hole? Side effects?

THanks
