I'll refer to it as a shoulder, or boss.
To make sure I'm measuring the right thing, there is, on the bottom inside edge of the distributor cap, a portion that sticks out farther than rest of the cap, a shoulder or lip or boss, just along the periphery, that mates with the notch in the metal. On mine (autolite) the notch happens to line up with the ground wire (I guess it's a ground wire) and is at about 10:00 or so.
Is that right?
