If you follow the prices of '30-'40's vehicles, for example, you'll find that a stocker will not bring anywhere near what a modified or street rod will fetch, unless it is an unusually rare item. My theory is that the prices are market driven, and that is always subject to change (fad?). Just my $.02. -D.
