The Canopy Express trucks were used for produce and any other use where you wanted to display your items for sale or have easy access. The side was covered by a roll-up canvas, the rear tailgate was a modified suburban model. The truck pictured is about a '49 and that body style was called the Advanced Design, which ran through first series '55. Chevy started doing this in at least the thirties or earlier and continued until the body change for the 2nd series '55 model. This one is a half ton I think (model 3107) but they did make them in heavier and longer models. I think Dodge and IH did these in the early days but don't remember who did them when except GM.

As a side note I found a 1/2 ton CC in Az. once for $400 that had the body cut in a similar way, except for the roof.
