Keith & Mike have summed it up. I had a clean all-original '58 Willys wagon for several years as a daily driver. I now have a '53 B4-PW which has only seen the neighborhood and the garage so far.
As far as off-road capabilities, my opinion is that the weight, size, power, and gearing of the Willys allows it to get itself in and out of most situations; while that of the PW allows it to get in, do any type of work that its designed and equipped to accomplish, then get back out too. One thing I think we can agree that they have in commom is that once roadworthy and out in public, they are bound to attract attention. Total strangers approach with sideways grins and comments such as, "Wow, my grandpa used to have one of these on the farm and it was the greatest."
By the way, if anyone has happened to see the new promotional info-mercial put out by Goodyear which documents Goodyear's contribution to the history of SUV's, that's my old Willys in the black and white opening sequence of shots. The current owner is a friend residing in Canton, OH. He and his 6-year old son appear in the video also along with the Willys.
They're different animals, but equally enjoyable and truly part of 4X4 history. Bruce
