Dave and I had a lenghty conversation this morning on the subject of these two shafts and the vibration and noise problems that he is having with "Gus".

After pouring over parts books, we have come to the tentative conclusion that the two shafts were indeed one and the same from 1946 through 1954 or 1955. Sometime during the years of '54 or '55, beginning with the C1PW or C3PW model, they changed to a different shaft for the output going to the drive shaft to the front axle. This new shaft had shorter tappered teeth than the one used up to that time and which was apparently still being used as the input shaft.

Parts manuals from 1946, 1948, 1951, and 1953 all agree on these two shafts as being the same and as sharing the part number 927 385. The 1956 parts manual shows the two shafts as being different for the C-series only. The indication as to the exact point of change seems to lay within the elusive parts manual #D-15078 believed to be from 1954.

Would any readers have access to D-15078? Stay tuned for further updates as they become available.

Clint
