I have a rear mounted Hickey Sidewinder 8000# winch on my '87 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel and a roller fairlead set into the place on the rear bumper where the license plate normally goes. It works great for pulling heavy things onto the trailer because the trailer stays hitched to the truck and you are winching against the weight of the truck. I tried to use it this weekend, but wouldn't run, so I'll have to check the motor on it, probably iced up from this winter. I also had a hitch ball mounted on the front of my other Power Wagon to pull heavy stuff onto the flatbed trailer. Use the truck for leverage whenever you can. I also have a 2-ton come-along with me at all times for the armstrong method if needed.
