The best Digital Reviue site I have found. Take your time in picking one out. It needs to fill your needs as you learn and grow in what you do. No fun spending $350 just to find out later it won't do what you want.

Like any other camera it's all in the lens. Get a quality optical zoom lens with macro. Forget digital zoom as the only zoom option. You will need quality macro sooner or later. The zoom should be the equivalent to a 35mm camera in the range of 35mm to 95-105mm. zoom lens.

The next will be flexibility or options in your basic camera functions. This is where many brand names fail to deliver. Be through here in your research.

2000 to 3000 mega pixel for quality. Make sure it uses SmartMedia card (smart card) and USB cable connect.

Hands down the Olympus Camedia C-3000zoom is the winner. It will grow with you. Very professional yet affordable.
