Mike,
We didn't have problems with the steering boxes it was the sad excuse of a universal they had on the steering shaft. We had 3 trucks and all were wore out before 20,000 miles. We were offroad 75% of the time on rough ground. The shaft is right next to the wheel and when you drive on a rainy day the water runs down the shaft right to(past) the cheesy seal they had on them.

You know it's a common problem when your local dealer has ALL the parts in stock for it. Compounding the problem there is no way to regularly grease it. As I replaced all of them I drilled and tapped them and installed a zerk. Shot waterproof grease in them frequently and helped a lot. Replaced only one after that at 58,000 miles down the line. One truck was bad the first time at 8,000 miles. The excuse "all of ours do that" doesn't sit to well when you shell out the kind of money they ask. Kevin
