Kevin - I thought so also but I was told the 3/4 ton frame was heavier in the mid 70's-80's trucks. I know about the steering box mount issue w/ big tires but these trucks had stock tires. Ran into enough of these guys in the boonies and they usually drived sensible so who knows, I've never seen frames so bad. My old ranch truck was a '78 4x4 3/4 ton Chevy, got it from another ranch after they had run it into the ground and then some. All that is original on it is the bed, frame, and running gear with skinny mud/snow tires. Ran it for years where I had to have 4x4 just to get home with no problems other than a rear axle shaft breaking, probably from damage from it's previous owner. Still have it, it is sitting at my boy's place in Phoenix.

I had a 91 Dodge Cummins 4x4 way back then, never had any brake problems but as you said they couldn't keep a tranny in it, after it quit on a cross country trip I dumped it. Brakes seem to be a problem with most of the newer trucks I have had and all the brands seem to have them. Get a lot of warped rotors.

My wife drives a 2wd '01 club cab Dodge and it was in the shop four times for sloppy steering before they replaced the box. The first dealer said that was just the way Dodges are, the second tried adjusting it and finally decided to replace it. Great truck so far, just wish the seats were better. Mike
