Several years ago, I installed new inner and outer seals, along with new lock nuts with the sealing surface and some wear sleeves for the inner seal. I subsequently drove the truck about 2000 miles over the course of 3 years. The truck then sat for 5 years and was later towed behind a motor home for 600 miles to my new home.

When I took the rear drums off to do some brake work, I found there was either grease or gear oil on the shoes (left and right). I think the inner seal went bad even though it was pretty new, but I also found some gear oil in with the hub grease. So it looks like the outer seal wasn't doing its job either. I noticed the outer seal doesn't fit very tight around the nut.

Y'all had this happen? Got any suggestions? Could the seals have dried up? They are all rubber, so I doubt it.
