Because as stated above in another post, the gm converted diesel was a bust. A Poly would be a good choice, but if exact restoration was the goal, an internally "built", in-line 6 would be prefered. HP vs Torque and one engine vs. another are really way too many variables to go into here. Why does a Cummins I-6 run circles around an International V-8? It has to do with bore vs. stroke, cubic inches, cam, cam timing, valve size, carburation, etc., etc.
Start by comparison of engine internals and you will begin to see how and why one engine works better than another.
