I am working on a '49 1 ton B1D, getting ready to buy tires. It has the 8-3/4 full floater with 6 lug/16 Budds, split ring, 6" wide dually wheels. I have all the parts to do a dually set up but the problem is tires. Centeline spacing on the stock dually rims is only 8", which puts me at a tire cross section around 7 inches. I would like to go radial but haven't been able to find anything this narrow. A 215/85/16 runs around 8"- 9" on the cross section. I can find some 600-16 bias ply including a knobby, a NDT and some standard highway tires , all bias ply, which should fit. The knobby and NDT seem a bit extreme for ride on the pavement while the highway treads won't provide much bite in the dirt. Anyone know of any other options ? How bad are the NDTs on pavement ? My other option is drop the dually rears and go with a standard all terrian radial which will fit fine. Any options I am missing ?
