8 3/4 rear ends were standard on the big block Mopars of the muscle car era. They stood up well to a lot of torque but dont know how they would handle heavy weight like a truck. But option on the muscle cars everyone liked and is trying to find now was the Dana 60 rear end. Held up even better with a 426 Hemi or 4406pak.
The 727 is probably the best built auto tranny made. Very reliable and durable.
