It is silicone carbide. There are many media, each one with a specific use. The walnut shells that Hemi Power refered to is best on engine parts, transmissions and transfer cases. There is aluminum oxide, plastics, and glass derived media for specific uses. A media supply company, such as the link to Eastwood which I left on a previous post, will go into greater detail. Do some web surfing of these sites and learn. Also the homemade blast cabinet, that Hemi Power linked to, is a great, very economical, way to go.
