I have never had any experience with the road vehicle world, however I have had a lot of experience with the antique tractor world. An 8 volt battery is a "band-aid" for other problems. If the system is in good condition, the 6 volt battery in good condition should work fine. Remember the 6 volt mantra, keep all your connections "clean, bright and tight". Another thing to remember, make sure you have the great big man-sized battery cables. The smaller ones for 12 volt systems just don't do the job. Getcha 0 gauge. And remember, the 6 volt starters always sound so slow to our ears that are used to hearing 12 volt starters whirring.
