Cliff, It sounds like you need new Transfer Case rubbber Isolating bushings. They get old & hard & you'll likely find that if you undo the bolts....even though you're tightening the nuts to the end of the thread, the rubber bushings aren't being compressed anymore. This leaves the transfer case just hanging from the 4 bolts & nothing to stop it frof swinging in the breaze. You will need 8 new ruber bushings.
