If the plate isn't inside the driver's door jamb, near the hinges, the VIN is also on the left front frame above the axle there on the driver's side. (I just went through all this with the DMV here in NE!) But look around a bit!! My VIN wasn't "right above the axle" it was on that frame, but way forward, up near where the springs meet the frame. So you might have to look a bit. Good luck! Half of my VIN was under a plate that was welded on sometime in the past for a plow or something!!
