Sean,
While in the Army I drove and maintained a five ton wrecker including the 10 each 1100X20 tires. I played the European war game two years (winters) in a row. I would go out with my battalion for a month and pull them around in the snow, with chains on all ten. We would come back in after a month and the tires were shredded from the chains. That wasn't enough I would mount up ten new one and go out with another unit for a month, come back and do it again and then a third time. All said and done 30 tires ruined from the chains. Never had a cage. Just clean those rims real good and then make sure the margin between the ring and the wheel was equal, maybe run a tow chain through the wheel and turn it ring down and air it up.... The snow was great fun in the wrecker... I was 19 at the time, in 76..
