The other day I spotted a mid-60s D-200 while driving thru what used to be a rural area so I turn around to go check its condition out. It sat out front of a large old block garage with 3 bays but looked like it hadn't been opened or used for some time. High grass ,weeds and briars surrounded the truck. The truck had been painted white but you could still makle out the signs of civil defense emblems on the metal camper type box on the bed. It was dark drab military green inside. It appeared to have been stored inside not too many years back as it was in excellent shape inside the cab and the 8' stepside bed had all the wood and looked great. The white paint seemed to have protected the truck while sitting outside and the box on the bed had saved it as well.
I asked some neighbors and was told it used to be a vol. fire dept. but that it had seemingly closedup after the main fellow who lived there died some years back.
My experience with vol. fire dept. stuff is that its donated by civil defense and cannot be sold without being turned back in to CD and auctioned off. I remember a few years back a couple of M-37s were sold just down the road which I suspect must have come from that same abandoned vol.fire station.
The son of the deceased vol fire dept.worker
lives in a trailer on the site. If I could get him to sell me the truck, what are the odds of future trouble without a paper trail as my state does not require a title (only bill of sale) for pre-75 vehicles. Is it possible that this community had actually bought the equip.and owned it outright? It looks like the stuff will sit right there and eventually rot away.
