Hey Jock,
If I remember correctly you have a second series truck. I have never been told this but I'm sure the spare mount is designed so that the weight of the spare sits on the running board. I'm sure prolonged travel on rough roads would soon pull the bolts thru the side of the bed on the spare mount.
