RD, just FYI, the Poly is NOT any wider than the LA, the blocks are the same size. Mounting is a straight bolt in from LA to A. They even share one mount in common. The A blocks look different because of the "wider" manifold due to the 'hemi' head design. The blocks are cast differently that gives the Poly 50 more lbs, but also makes it more rebuildable if someone whats 400 cu in. I'm not worried about drag racing, most of my driving is at 2 mph, but straight up or down over rocks etc.
The Poly has a forged crank, the LA is cast. Most later LA's only put out HP in the low 100's (due to smog junk) The Poly can turn out 300+ HP and still get 16-18 mpg all day long. The LA is a good little commuter engine, but no Poly. Just like the 426 wedge is a good engine but no 426 Hemi! After I finish my frame-off, I'll give you a ride = )
