Does any one use any respitory protection while MIG welding? I doubt it. I dont, but pretty much always weld outside anyways. Our shop welder at the City Garage, has just come down with decreased respitory function. He has been welding all types of metals, since the early 70's. Since a few years ago, I have gotten into the habbit of wearing a respirator when grinding and cutting, and feel a lot better at the end of the day( none of that gray stuff in my nose), but it dosent fit under my welding helmet. I dont have the dough for the nice Speedglass forced filtered air, auto darkening helmet ($1300 at your local welding supply) and I know those paper dust masks are all but useless. What else is there? Would a HEPA fitted dust mask work? Just a thought.
