I've been driving a flat fender around for 25 years with nondirectionals and while they may look "original" I was never impressed with their preformance--especially on ice or snow. I had been looking for new tires and had considered the 12" wide NATO. I talked with the guys at Vintage PW. Their comments about the NATO- especially that they floated over the snow--I needed traction, I push snow in the winter--steered me to the STA Super Lug. With my worn out nondirectional's I had been considering diff lockers but now after trying the super lugs on the first snow/ice storm of 2002 (SE Michigan) I don't think I'll need them. Spedo cable is currently broken but by the sound of the engine I've picked up road speed and lost the front end shimmy I had. I do not trail ride her--usage is pushing snow, logging (winching), hauling stuff over road or thru fields. Still waiting for 12+" snow storm to give it that final test.
