Listen to me. You have anutomatic with a 2.6:1 1st gear or so, not very low for hill descending.
Check out Offroad Designs at www.offroaddesigns.com They make adapters, you need their DU4001 from your Dodge NP203 gear reduction box (the front 5.75" of your 203, you throw away the rest). They will sell you a complete NP205 along with the adapter. With their adapter, you won't need to change the length of your driveshafts. And if you do any offroading, you'll immediately see the value of haveing a 3.94:1 low-low range in your transfer case(s).
The The money you save on driveshaft work (about $400) will pay for half the cost of the adapter, your net expense will be $400 plus the cost of the 205. A small price IMHO for a respectable (40-45:1) low range.
