Good morning, Robb- I'm with you on preserving the originality of ALL vintage equipment, and as the owner of a few WW2 vehicles and a 52 PW, I know exactly where you're coming from. In saying that, keep in mind that the chemicals you use to preserve the current look WILL have an effect on if you decide to do future restorations. However, as long as you de-grease thoroughly, sandblast, or take the metal part down to bare steel, you should be fine.

I have simply used WD40 on some original paint, and it turns out nice! I just know that it will attract dust, need to be reapplied once a year, and that if I decide to restore to original paint, I have a lot of prep work ahead of me.
