unless there is no specified torque amount, NEVER install any type of lock or flat washer! unless it is specified by manufacturer, torqued hardware is usually specified and measured on a direct bolt to housing installation, also never apply oil, grease, or other substance to a torqued assy, this will give false torque readings. only do what the manufacturer directs. you can stake the threads or stake the nut to help keep loosening to a minimum. often it will call for a flat hardened machine washer, be sure to use a 'machined' washer as the surfaces are hardened and ground parallel and will distribute torque evenly.just my 2 cents worth
