I'm replacing the cracked 251 (red in the pictures) in my 66 PowerWagon with a 265 (silver). The 251 appears to have an internal bypass (bump on head), but the 265 does not. The 251's pump has an internal port for this bypass.
But, I need to use the 251's pump on the 265 because it's inlet points down, which is the easiest route from the radiator.
So, if I use a thermohousing with a bypass outlet (picture) and connect that outlet to the heater return port on the 251 pump (the small tube at the top in the pic) will I get the flow through the motor when the thermo is closed, albeit without a heater.
To get the heater back, can I put a tee into that bypass line and hook the heater return to it?
Thanks!
