Flat bed height

I'm thinking of lowering the flatbed on my 66 ffpw. Currently it sits on top of a 9" c-channel that sits on the frame, with cutouts to match the hump of the frame over the axle.

I think it would look better being lower. How low can I go without worrying about wheel articulation hitting it?

I have 9.0x11 STA tires, could see going a bit larger down the road. Can I assume that the springs would never go past being straight? I won't be carrying any significant weight, so am considering softening the springs up. I do hope to do some mild off-roading with it. Thx
