Looks, help minimize heat from the engine into the cab, marginal noise reduction. If you ever rode a motorcycle in cold weather, if you cut a piece of cardboard and placed it inside your jacket against your chest, you don't feel the cold, great insulator. A furniture store or appliance store is a good source for large cardboard box that may be doubled wall, it just needs some laminate covering like easyliner that's used at bottom of drawers, and a can of flat black paint.
