The later PWs did come with a 4psi cap, so no harm from that. And there used to be a donut that was dropped into the filler neck to allow use of the pressure cap. I made mine out of solid brass.
Blocks are also pressurized to about 11 psi by the pump, if you have a thermostat. Our core plugs can easily stand some pressure, if properly installed. NOT the cute little dimple in the middle- the dimple actually pulls the metal inwards making for a loose fit. Smack them good with a flat hammer.
