later trucks used a swedged or jam type lock nut, if you examine the nut you will see three to five pinch marks in the circumference, the nut is swedged in a press to make the locks, it will self bind as it is tightened thus jamming into final position. they are a one use only and should never be re used as they will come loose. later the nylock nut replaced some types but I prefer the swedged. larger trucks still use them too and yes, make sure you torque them properly, if you have a problem finding one, go to a drive train supply euclid makes them in all izes. (same goes for u bolts )
