Kerosene is a lighter petroleum product than diesel, it boils at a lower temperature, and has a thinner viscosity.
Color determines tax payment or grades depending on product.

In order of lower boiling temperatures and thinner viscosity to higher boiling temps. and thicker viscosity;
Butane and Gaseous products (Mercaptan is added to give it a odor)
Gasoline and Gasoline blending products
Naphtha
Kerosene and Jet Fuel (AKA Paraffins)
Distillates (Diesel and Heating Oil)
Heavier Gas Oils (Bunker Fuel, Power Station Fuels)
FYI; Used motor oil and used ATF are blended into this category, or sent to be refined and used again.
Residential Heating Oils
Lubricating Oils, Paraffin Wax
Bitumens (Roofing products and Asphalt),
