The part on the right side of the photo is the piece I needed to replace some rust holed roof supports, those three supports on the rear of the cab that I suppose are there to support the roof. This piece is at the bottom of one of those supports that attach to the floorpan and the rear sheet metal behind the seat. Or, that is what it was intended to replace. After fabricating the little beast, I started cleaning the affected area for welding, ..., a wire wheel on a grinder. I use the wire wheel to get rid of the rust and any pookey metal that will not weld well. But, I always forget, and this time as well, that the wire wheel is going to remove metal, ..., the metal that the piece is cut to weld to. You think I would have learned by now. And yet I keep making the same mistake. I have to clean the area before making my pattern/template and making the part. On the left is the photo of the part I had to make to fill in the area after I cleaned the area. Will I ever learn a lesson? I am hoping that by making this behavior public, my humiliation will cause me to stop before I make my template, and clean first. DUH!!!
