I’ve got to drop a load of parts off to be Cad plated in the next few days. I’ll ask the plater what he thinks it is. You could be right…these are definitely military surplus but whatever the coating…I’d way rather have it on there than silver paint. The ones I had on my orange 49 I had Cad Plated. It’s a bit of a performance to do them because steel becomes brittle when it’s cad plated unless you aneal the part after it comes out of the tank in an oven. I’m not sure if it’s totally necessary on a ring like this but because of the danger of split rims if they ever failed…I wasn’t going to take a chance.
If you’ve ever had bolts cad plated most of the lock washers & flat washers will crack.
